God's Word For Today

Compassion

Read 2 Kings 11:1 through 13:25

Grayson joined the Trent family as an angry twelve-year-old. His mom became sick and unable to care for him, so the Trent family agreed to take him in. Raising Grayson required love and patience. Whenever things became overwhelming, the Trents reminded themselves of their love for Grayson’s mom. Their persistence produced fruit. Grayson grew up to be a youth pastor. The Trent’s compassion changed Grayson’s life.

The Lord was gracious to them and had compassion and showed concern for them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (2 Kings 13:23).

The children of Israel fell short of God’s plan. They worshipped other gods. Even when they were unfaithful, God showed the Israelites His faithfulness because of His covenant with the patriarchs.

Christians make mistakes, but God shows His grace and compassion. He treats us favorably because He sees us through the new covenant wrought by Jesus. Believers can receive and extend grace because of what Jesus has done.

Challenge for Today: Show grace to others today, just as you have been shown grace.

Quicklook: 2 Kings 13:20–25
